SUMMARY:Addressing Sexual Violence in Confinement and Correctional Facilities
DESCRIPTION:Addressing Sexual Violence in Confinement and Correctional Facilities is a 90-minute webinar addresses the prevalence and impact of sexual violence within correctional facilities\, focusing particularly on incarcerated individuals from marginalized communities\, such as people of color\, individuals with disabilities\, and those with behavioral health needs. The training also highlights the unique challenges faced by incarcerated survivors of sexual violence in rural areas\, where access to resources and support services can be limited. \nIncarcerated survivors often face heightened vulnerabilities to violence\, whether from staff or fellow inmates\, and may encounter punitive retaliation when reporting or disclosing abuse. This virtual training will examine these challenges and explore supportive\, trauma-informed strategies for working with this underserved community\, with a focus on both correctional facilities and rural survivors. \nThis project was supported by the office of violence against women\, department of justice Grant 15JOVW-22-GG-01142-RURA. The opinions\, findings\, conclusions\, and recommendations expressed are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the state or the U.S. Department of Justice.
