Training Overview: Abuse in Later Life 101 is an introductory training designed for professionals, community leaders, and advocates who want to better understand how abuse, neglect, and exploitation impact older adults. This training provides foundational knowledge that prepares participants to identify, respond to, and prevent abuse in later life. This session can stand alone as an essential training or serve as a precursor to the more in-depth full-day program, Responding to Abuse Later in Life.

Learning Objectives: Participants will gain An understanding of what constitutes abuse in later life, including domestic violence, sexual violence, neglect, and financial exploitation. Knowledge of warning signs and indicators of abuse, neglect, and exploitation among older adults. Guidance on mandatory reporting requirements in Arizona and how to engage Adult Protective Services (APS). Awareness of the role of APS and law enforcement in responding to vulnerable adult abuse. Information on resources and support services available to older adult survivors and their families.
